When we think of technology in the classroom it is a safe assumption to automatically thinking of smart devices to make learning more fun and enjoyable. However, doesn’t this almost seem like a cop out to the traditional way of teaching? It would appear that way because of our heavy reliance of modern technology. Although technology serves as a tremendous boost in education we should always consider our resources. We always must keep in mind that not all school districts can afford the latest (if any) modern technology. Teachers must always be thinking outside the box to ensure their students receive the best knowledge that will assist them in grades to come. Using technology in the classroom without an actual gadget is a great way to incorporate various styles of teaching. It may not be the easiest task to do but as an educator it is ideal to prioritize your time and goals. Student engagement doesn’t mean you have to use a smart board or an iPad but what you can do with the resources provided. Understanding what requirements your students need to meet will lay a foundation of what can be taught and what can be eliminated in any given lesson plan.
